This is a fantastic event you won't want to miss! Get involved and have loads of fun while helping a great cause. Here's how it works:

 

Who can enter

Any group or organization can take part! Each team must include an architect, engineer, designer or construction professional. Volunteer mentors are available from these industries to support your team.

 

Entry fee

Entry in the competition is $500 per team. Or register by June 30 and save with an early bird rate of just $400 per team!

 

Each team is also responsible for acquiring and paying for the canned food to be used in their creation. All the food will be donated to FEED NOVA SCOTIA after the event.

Award categories

A jury of professionals will select winning entries in the following categories:

 

- Structural Integrity

- Best Meal

- Best Use of Labels

- Juror's Favourite

- Honourable Mention

 

As well, a People’s Choice Award will be chosen by the public.

 

Contest rules

All teams must have one member who is an architect, engineer, landscape architect, or other design professional.

Each team is allowed a maximum of 5 ‘builders’ working on their CanSculpture at any one time. An unlimited number of people can be involved in the planning & design.

Each team is responsible for purchasing or acquiring its own canned food.

Teams must submit the following (when known): Title of CanSculpture, brief written description, concept sketch, dimensions, lists of foods used, and number of cans used.

CanSculptures must be made of canned food, with minimal elements of other non-perishable food or props. Cans must be full, unopened, and with labels intact and legible.

All CanSculptures must be completely self-supporting, with no framework or other structural supports. Thin sheets of plexiglas, cardboard or similar material can be used as a levelling device (not a structural support) between rows.

CanSculptures must fit within a 10' x 10' area, and be a max. of 8' high. (3m x 3m x 2.4m).

Cans may be joined using: doublesided tape, scotch tape, velcro, fishing line, wire and rubber bands. Any other method that provides easy demountabilty is permitted, provided the labels and cans are not damaged. NO gluing or permanent affixing allowed.

No alcohol, glass containers, pet food, perishable or open packages of food allowed.

Award winners in the categories of Jurors' Favorite, Best Use of Labels, Best Meal, Structural Ingenuity and Honourable Mentions will be forwarded on to the international competition. Structures that don't comply with the structural rules are exempt from international competition.
